Maryland starting QB projections 2024: Who will be Mike Locksley's QB1?

Mike Locksley has served as Maryland's football coach since 2019. He has posted a 29-33 record throughout his tenure with the Terrapins thus far.

While Maryland has shown improvements in recent years, Locksley will be eager to target a divisional title or even a conference title in the upcoming season. To achieve that success, he needs a reliable quarterback.

Predicting Mike Locksley's starting quarterback at Maryland for 2024

As things stand, MJ Morris is expected to get the nod as Maryland's starting quarterback for the 2024 season. However, the Terrapins are yet to confirm their QB1.

Notably, there are no quarterbacks representing Maryland at the program's Big Ten media day on Thursday. Senior wideout Tai Felton, senior running back Ruben Hyppolite II, and redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Jordan Phillips will join coach Mike Locksley in addressing the media.

Morris transferred to Maryland this offseason after spending two seasons at NC State. The signal-caller racked up 1,367 yards on 115 passes with 14 touchdowns during his time with the Wolfpack. He also rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown on the ground across 11 games.

Morris has proven himself to be a reliable quarterback and the upcoming season will be crucial for him to boost his draft stock.

Billy Edwards Jr. is expected to serve as Morris' backup at Maryland. Meanwhile, Cameron Edge and Khristian Martin are also among the choices for Locklsey in 2024.

Last season, Taulia Tagovailoa led the offense for Maryland. However, he declared for the 2024 NFL draft where he went undrafted before joining the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

In March, coach Locksley said that he was still uncertain about his starting quarterback in 2024.

“Nobody ask me again. I can’t make it any clearer,” Locksley said. "I have no idea who my starting quarterback is and I am looking forward to figuring it out. Tuesday before UConn, you’ll get an answer.”

Locksley might confirm his starting quarterback when he gets up on the podium at Maryland's Big Ten media day on Thursday.
