Rhule has more than 27 years of coaching experience and has entered his second season for the Cornhuskers. Rhule is an experienced leader known for improving and integrating teams in collegiate and professional football. Before Nebraska, Rhule gained experience in the NFL by coaching the Carolina Panthers. He managed to help Baylor University and Temple University out of disastrous situations within a year or less. Rhule earned numerous honors during his time as a coach, such as winning the Sporting News National Coach of the Year in 2019, Big 12 Coach of the Year, and AFCA Region IV Coach of the Year. Matt Rhule has been a coach for three decades. He began as Temple University's head coach in 2013, from having only two wins in his first year to winning the conference championship by 2016. After Temple, Rhule went to Baylor University in 2017 as the head coach. Before his appointment, Baylor had only one win in the previous season. Rhule became the head coach and finished the 2019 season with 11 wins. His team also made an appearance in the Big 12 Championship and the Sugar Bowl game. Rhule's successes in college football led him to become the head coach for the NFL team Carolina Panthers in 2020. He coached for the Panthers until 2022 when he moved back to the college level to coach the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
