UNLV quarterback Matthew Sluka revealed on Tuesday night that he would redshirt the 2024 college football season and re-enter the transfer portal. This is due to unfulfilled NIL promises made by the Rebels' offensive coordinator Brennan Marion. Sluka transferred to the Rebels from the Holy Crusaders via the transfer portal last year.

His agent Marcus Cromartie revealed to ESPN that the Rebels had committed to paying Sluka $100,000 via its NIL collective Blue Print Sports. Which three teams could the Rebels quarterback end up joining via the transfer portal in December?

#3 Holy Cross Crusaders

Matthew Sluka played for the Holy Cross Crusaders for four years, leading them to the FCS playoffs in 2021 and 2022. He distinguished himself with his performances for the team and is ranked No. 2 in rushing touchdowns (38) and rushing yards (3,583), no. 5 in passing touchdowns (59) and passing yards (5,916).

Despite coach Bob Chesney departing to the James Madison Dukes, a homecoming for Matthew Sluka under new coach Dan Curran would not be beyond the realms of possibility.

#2 The Colorado Buffaloes

An intriguing option for Matthew Sluka would be a move to the Colorado Buffaloes after maverick quarterback and coach Deion Sander's son Shedeur Sanders departs for the NFL.

Coach Prime has repeatedly stated that he prefers to recruit experience from the transfer portal.

Shedeur is definitely departing for the NFL, leaving a huge hole in need of an experienced quarterback.

Sluka fulfills all the criteria for a move to Boulder and adds another dimension that the Buffs do not have, a ground presence. In the three games played this season, Sluka is ranked No. 1 in rushing yards per game (253 yards) in the Mountain West Conference.

During his Holy Cross days, the quarterback was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year last season. He registered a balanced 1,728 passing yards and 1,247 rushing yards to make for a dual-threat quarterback.

#1. Michigan would be the ideal move for Matthew Sluka

The Michigan Wolverines, under first-year coach Sherrone Moore, are struggling in the quarterback department. After being named QB1, Davis Warren has struggled, registering 444 yards with two touchdowns and six interceptions.

This prompted Moore to start backup Alex Orji against the USC Trojans in the Wolverines' Week four 27-24 win, although he has also registered just 47 yards for two touchdowns.

Michigan fan and owner of Barstool Sports Dave Portnoy revealed on the Barstool Pickem show that he was willing to offer the Wolverines up to $3 million to recruit a quarterback from the transfer portal.

“Michigan, I will be your quarterback guy. You just say, ‘Dave, you go [get a quarterback]. I’ll talk to whoever you want. I will sign them $1 million, $2 million – whatever it is,” Portnoy said. “I can get a quarterback. We don’t have a quarterback. $3 million … I’m going to get us a top-10 quarterback in the portal coming out every year.”

Replacing former quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who was picked No. 10 by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2024 NFL Draft was always going to be hard. But Matthew Sluka with his experience represents a steady option for the Wolverines.

Sluka has led the Rebels to a 3-0 start and a place in the AP Poll top 25. Sluka has completed 21-of-48 passes for 318 yards, resulting in six touchdowns and one interception this season, adding 286 yards on 39 carries resulting in one touchdown.
