Max Johnson is an American college football player who will be playing his first season with the North Carolina Tar Heels. Johnson commenced his football career at Oconee County High School where he led the school to a Georgia 4A state title game as a senior. He was rated a four-star pro-style quarterback by major sports outlets and was rated one of the country’s top high-school prospects. He concluded his prep career with 5,140 yards and 47 TDs while adding another 289 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. Johnson committed to play college football with Louisiana State after receiving offers from top programs like Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

In his freshman season, Johnson saw action in only six games and threw for 1,069 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and one interception. The following year as a sophomore, Johnson saw more playing time as he was named LSU’s starting quarterback and concluded the year with 2,815 passing yards and 27 touchdowns. However, after two seasons with LSU Tigers, Johnson decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal and committed to Texas A&M Aggies in 2022. For the next two years, Johnson saw action in only 12 games and was never named a full-time starter at College Station. Last season, Johnson led the Aggies with 1,452 passing yards and nine touchdowns. After a two-year stint with Texas A&M, Johnson decided to transfer to the North Carolina Tar Heels with two remaining seasons of eligibility. In four productive seasons with LSU and Texas A&M, Johnson threw for 5,853 yards and 47 touchdowns against 12 interceptions.
