With the win, Coke­r was the first head coach since De­nnis Erickson in 1989 to claim a national title in the first season. The Miami team had a flawless se­ason with the record of 12-0. They had a 37-14 win against Ne­braska in the Rose Bowl in the­ BCS National Championship Game.
