Miami vs. Virginia football history: Records, H2H stats, and more

The Miami Hurricanes and the Virginia Cavaliers have some history against one another and are gearing up for another matchup this week. Neither team is ranked as Virginia (2-5, 1-2 in ACC) and Miami (5-2, 1-2) are ready to duke it out for 60 minutes.

Here's a look at some of the history between these two programs:

Miami vs. Virginia H2H

These teams have not faced off as often as you'd expect with a rivalry like the Hurricanes and the Cavaliers have. There have been 20 meetings before their Week 9 matchup and the Miami Hurricanes hold a 12-8 record against the Virginia Cavaliers.

Notable records in the series

The most notable game to discuss happened all the way back on Nov. 10, 2007, as the 19th-ranked Virginia Cavaliers traveled to the Orange Bowl to take on the Miami Hurricanes. This was the final game that the Hurricanes were playing inside the Orange Bowl after playing for the previous 70 years inside the stadium. However, Virginia beat the brakes off Miami with a 48-0 dominant victory.

Cavaliers quarterback Jameel Sewell finished the day going 20-25 for 288 yards with a passing touchdown and an interception while running eight times for 28 yards and a rushing touchdown. The defense suffocated Hurricanes quarterback Kyle Wright, who went 9-21 for 94 yards and three interceptions. No Miami player had more than 53 all-purpose yards in the game.

Preview of Miami vs. Virginia, Week 9

This game does not feel like much of a fair fight and the 19-point spread currently on this game feels like it should be doubled. Virginia has been struggling as they are 98th in points per game (23.6) and tied for 110th in points against per game (31.1).

Miami has been a top program as they have scored 36.3 points per game (17th in college football) while allowing 19.1 points per game (25th). Junior quarterback Tyler Van Dyke is coming off a solid game against the UNC Tar Heels where he threw for 391 yards with four touchdowns so he should be able to carve up this Cavaliers secondary.

This game is not expected to be very close and Virginia could have a tough time not turning the ball over. Miami has been great with the turnover chain as they have 12 takeaways (five fumble recoveries, seven interceptions). Expect Miami to dominate and cover the spread.
