Michael Penix Jr. Heisman odds after Week 8 of college football

Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr. almost had a disastrous night in Week 8 college football action against the Arizona State Sun Devils. However, the team managed a narrow escape, winning 15-7 on Saturday night.

Penix has been impeccable this season, but his display against the Sun Devils showed that he's human after all. His performance did him no favors in the race for the Heisman Trophy.

For most of the season, USC's Caleb Williams has been the heavy favorite for the Heisman, but a woeful outing in South Bend against Notre Dame allowed the chasers to take over the race. Michael Penix was at the top of that pile.

So, what do his odds look like after his latest showing?

Michael Penix Jr. Heisman Odds

It was shocking for Michael Penix, who had a rare off night and was responsible for four turnovers, including two interceptions and two fumbles.

The usually clinical Washington Huskies struggled all night and let the Sun Devils lead for most of the contest. It was the Huskies' first win without an offensive touchdown since 2001.

Penix went 27-of-42 for 275 yards, resulting in no touchdowns, which accounts for his second-worst completion game this season. It was a night that could end his hopes for the trophy, even though the season still has a few games.

Since the Arizona State Sun Devils have given up 28 points a game this season and have a 1-6 record, this game has severely damaged the quarterback's Heisman odds.

Penix is at +260 odds to win the Heisman Trophy this season and has been overtaken by the imperious quarterback, J.J. McCarthy of the Michigan Wolverines, who is at +200 odds.

Against Michigan State, McCarthy went 21-of-27 for 287 yards, resulting in four touchdowns to lead the Wolverines to a flawless 8-0 record to plant his credentials in the Heisman race.

With 1,799 passing yards on 78.1% completion, resulting in 18 touchdowns and playing for the country's most in-form team, it is clear why McCarthy is now the favorite.

Everyone agreed that the highly marketable Michael Penix had a Heisman Trophy-worthy moment when the Huskies beat the Oregon Ducks in front of a widely watched, tense game where he bested opposing QB Bo Nix.

Michael Penix will have to recover from the loss of face from the Arizona State game if he is to beat out a robust and quarterback-heavy field to win college football's most prestigious award.
