The Michigan Wolverines are in the midst of a sign-stealing scandal that has been making headlines for the past week. The team is suspected of stealing signs from the opposing sideline during games. The assistant coach, Connor Stalions, has been implicated as the main player in this scandal.
With people beginning to notice the situation this season, Adam King of 10TV News found a video from last year's Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Michigan Wolverines game. On the Michigan sideline, one can see Connor Stalions standing next to the Michigan defensive coordinator and their weird interaction with one another.
While the Michigan sign stealing is a hot topic and the video clearly shows Stalions looking at the opposing sideline, it comes with a lot of different feelings. Could this just be the Wolverines trying to counter? It's definitely something to keep an eye on and showcases this situation is potentially going to be very far back.
What will happen with the Michigan sign-stealing scandal?
This could wind up being bigger than people want to admit for the Michigan Wolverines. The Michigan sign-stealing saga continues to make headlines and Connor Stalions could be breaking an NCAA rule about being in-person to scout future opponents.
With Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh already being suspended for the first three games of the regular season, this could fall back on him. Multiple NCAA infractions on a program are never a good sign and the saddest part is that this Michigan Wolverines program is extremely talented. Having undue advantages by breaking rules, on the other hand, will not go over well in the NCAA offices.
Even if the University of Michigan is going to continue believing Connor Stalions is acting on his own, that is another mark on Jim Harbaugh. In a completely different situation, Northwestern got rid of their coach because the athletic program believed he should have known what was going on. This is by no means trying to compare the situations but the top of the program likely knows what is going on.
There is a smoking gun in Stalions' computer being investigated and finding an "elaborate" system to steal signs by the Wolverines since at least 2021. This is something that is going to be used as an example, specifically if they can find out there was technology involved to decipher signals.
Stealing signs is okay if you are doing it legally. If not, this could be the NCAA bringing the hammer down on one of the top programs in college football.
