Michigan vs Michigan State: Preview
Michigan is a 3.5-point favorite at home while the over/under is set at 40 points.
The Wolverines have been a disappointment this season after winning the national championship last season. Michigan will likely play multiple quarterbacks this week, as the Wolverines have no true No. 1 quarterback. Coach Sherrone Moore says whoever starts needs to take care of the football.
"Taking care of the ball, that's going to be the No. 1 priority, the biggest thing," Moore said, via ESPN. "You want big plays, you want efficiency, but we have to take care of the football."
The Wolverines lead in the running game as Kalel Mullings has rushed for 676 yards on 110 carries and seven touchdowns, while Donovan Edwards has rushed for 391 yards and three touchdowns.
Defensively, Michigan is led by Will Johnson with two picks, Josaiah Stewart with 5.5 sacks and Ernest Hausmann with 45 tackles. However, Johnson is dealing with an injury and is a game-time decision. But if he can't play, Moore has confidence in another player to step up.
"Yeah, more of those guys just getting better. They've got bright, bright futures, we think. Jo'Ziah Edmonds can be as good as anybody," Moore said, via AtoZ Sports. "He's got a great skill set, great ability, great speed. And then Mason Curtis."
"You're talking about a 6'3" safety that can run, and he'll hit you. So, felt like those guys--we have these opportunities in practice. We have another one [this week]. It's gives a chance for younger guys to really evolve and get better, and those are chances for those guys."
Michigan State, meanwhile, is led by quarterback Aidan Chiles who's thrown for 1,468 yards, six touchdowns and nine interceptions while rushing for 144 yards and three touchdowns.
Defensively, the Spartans are led by Charles Brantley with three interceptions, Jordan Turner and Khris Bogle with three sacks each and Turner with 43 tackles.
This should be a very close game because both teams have struggled this season. However, the Wolverines offense will continue to struggle to pass the ball. Further, Illinois ran all over their defense last week, which is a concern in this matchup.
Michigan State should be able to go into the Big House and get a big win here to sink Michigan's season.
