Middle Tennessee vs Louisiana Tech preview
Middle Tennessee is a 5.5-point underdog on the road, while the over/under is set at 50 points.
Middle Tennessee has struggled this season due to its offense. The Blue Raiders scored only seven points against Memphis as they struggled in their running game.
Middle Tennessee trailed 14-0 at the half, so coach Derek Mason was proud of how his team played in the second half.
"The Blue Raider football team got better tonight," Mason said, via Daily News Journal. "We came out, and I thought we had the right type of energy. Overall I thought the group grew up tonight. We played hard."
"The outcome is not what we wanted. There are no moral victories, but we went on the road in a hostile environment and played solid ball, and we can build on that."
The Blue Raiders have been led by quarterback Nicholas Vattiato who's gone 107-for-163 for 1,285 yards, five touchdowns, and four interceptions. Running back Jaiden Credle has rushed for 233 yards. Receiver Omari Kelly has caught 24 receptions for 471 yards and three touchdowns.
However, Kelly caught a 69-yard touchdown against Memphis but replay ruled he fumbled the ball outside the endzone, which the star receiver took the blame for.
"I feel like that was a bad play on my part," Kelly said. "I was just trying to make the most of the opportunity I got. It was just bad timing, (with it) raining and stuff. I feel like I have to be better with my ball security, make sure I make the plays that come to me."
On defense, Middle Tennessee has been led by John Howse IV with two interceptions, James Gillespie with two sacks, and Howse IV also leads the team with 30 tackles.
Louisiana Tech, meanwhile, is coming off a 17-10 road loss to FIU. This season, the Bulldogs have gone with three different quarterbacks. But, the offense has been led by receiver Tru Edwards who has caught 17 passes for 208 yards and a touchdown.
Louisiana Tech has struggled to run the ball, but defensively the Bulldogs have been able to get after the quarterback. Louisiana Tech has 10 sacks this season, while the Bulldogs are led by linebacker Zach Zimos who has 35 tackles.
Ultimately, this will be a close game as both Middle Tennessee and Louisiana Tech have struggled this season. Louisiana Tech should get the win but it will be a competitive game.
