Mike Elko is the head coach of the Texas A&M Aggies Football Team. Mike was born on July 28, 1977, in South Brunswick, New Jersey. He began his football career as a safety at the University of Pennsylvania. Mike played for the Ivy League champion team in 1998. He graduated from Penn in 1999 with a degree in history, setting the stage for a long coaching career that began immediately after graduation. Elko gained coaching experience through multiple roles, primarily on the defensive side of the ball. He first worked as a graduate assistant at Stony Brook before moving into various coaching positions at Penn, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and Fordham, among others. He is known for his defensive gameplay. He won the Military Bowl and the ACC Coach of the Year in the year 2023.

Elko began his career as a graduate assistant at Stony Brook back in 1999 before joining Penn as defensive backs coach in 2000. He joined as the defensive coordinator for the U.S Merchant Marine Academy. Elko served as the defensive coordinator, and linebackers coach, at Bowling Green State. Elko was acknowledged for his defensive strategies and also served at Wake Forest as the defensive coordinator from 2014 to 2016. He was later hired as the defensive coordinator for Notre Dame in 2017. From 2018 to 2021, he worked as a defensive coordinator at Texas A&M. He was promoted to head coach at Duke in 2022. Elko returned to Texas A&M as head coach for the 2024 season.
