Mike Norvell’s tenure as the coach of Florida State has undoubtedly been a success. He teamed up with the Seminoles in 2020 and has gradually elevated the program back to the pinnacle of college football following what looked like a rough start after joining from Memphis.

Following the brilliant season the Seminoles had in 2023, Norvell has been rewarded with a new eight-year deal by the Florida State athletic department. This contract solidifies the coach's future in Tallahassee and ensures he concentrates on rebuilding the program.

Norvell notably led the Seminoles to an undefeated season in 2023, winning the Atlantic Coast Conference title for the first time since 2014. However, his team was controversially left out of the College Football Playoff, a decision that is still debated among fans.

How much will Mike Norvell earn on his new contract?

Mike Norvell is set to be paid a total of $10 million in total wages on his new contract. This is a significant increase on his previous annual earnings of $7.3 million. His new salary confidently places him among the highest-earning coaches in college football.

“We are thrilled that Coach Norvell has reaffirmed his commitment to Florida State University and our student-athletes,” FSU vice president and athletics director Michael Alford said in a statement.
“Throughout his time at FSU, it has been clear how special he is as a person. He truly is so much more than merely a great football coach! His dignity, class, warmth, humility and professionalism are evident to anyone in his presence.”

The new contract arrived amid Nick Saban's unexpected retirement, which leaves the coaching position in Tuscaloosa open. Alabama has shown a serious interest in making Norvell their next coach, and the Seminoles needed something to tie down the coach.

Mike Norvell excited to continue at Florida State

Despite the interest from Alabama, Mike Norvell is committed to continuing his good work at Florida State. He made it known that he is elated to keep working to restore the program's status as a top program.

“It has been an incredible journey these last four years, and I have fallen in love with this program, the university and the people who I get to represent,” Norvell said in a statement. “I am so excited to continue our climb to push Florida State back to the top of college football.”

While the Seminoles missed out on the playoffs this season in an unlikely fashion, Norvell and his team have a good chance next season as the landscape proceeds to a 12-team playoff.
