PJ Fleck was appointed as the football coach of the Minnesota Golden Gophers before the 2017 season. He has racked up a 50-34 record thus far but hasn't won a Big Ten West divisional title since 2019.
While Fleck will want to end Minnesota's drought for a major title in 2024, he needs a quarterback who matches his ambition.
Predicting PJ Fleck's starting quarterback at Minnesota for 2024

As things stand, Mike Brosmer is expected to get the nod as Minnesota's starting quarterback for the 2024 season. He will also represent the Golden Gophers at the team's Big Ten media day on Thursday, along with coach PJ Fleck.
Brosmer spent five years at New Hampshire before transferring to Minnesota this offseason. He missed the entire 2021 season due to a torn ACL.
During his four playing years with the Wildcats, Brosmer recorded 8,713 passing yards and 70 touchdowns. He also rushed for 10 touchdowns across 36 games. The quarterback earned an AP Second-Team FCS All-American in 2023.
Brosmer has experience behind him heading into the 2024 campaign, which could also be his final collegiate season before declaring for the NFL draft. The signal-caller has an opportunity to boost his draft stock, which could potentially impact his pro career.
Last season, Athan Kaliakmanis led Minnesota's offense to a 6-7 record. He racked up 1,838 yards and 14 touchdowns across 12 games in his final year with the team before transferring to Rutgers.
Coach Fleck will hope that Brosmer can do a better job in 2024 than what Athan Kaliakmanis did last year. Posting a winning season would be of primary importance.
Notably, the Golden Gophers also have Drake Lindsey in their quarterback ranks. However, Lindsey, who is entering his freshman year, is expected to serve as the backup to Brosmer in the upcoming season.
Dylan Wittke is likely the third-choice quarterback for Minnesota, while Max Shikenjanski is yet another option Coach Fleck can call upon.
