Minnesota vs Rutgers: Preview
Minnesota is a six-point favorite and the over/under is set at 46.5 points.
The Golden Gophers are on a four-game winning streak, including upset wins over USC and Illinois.
“We knew there was going to be a great crowd and it would be hostile. So what?” Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck said on Nov. 2, via Yahoo. “Illinois is ranked. So what? We kept it all internal.”
Although Minnesota is on a roll, Fleck said his team needs to continue practicing and playing hard.
"I can’t fix momentum, I can’t control momentum, I can’t practice momentum, so why would I put a lot of stock into it?" Fleck said, via FOX9. "I want to have things I can get better at, I want measurable things that I can sit there and say we’ve got to get better at X, Y and Z, and here’s how we’re going to get better.
"But momentum is just an easy word to say, ‘Yeah, we didn’t have the momentum.’ It’s an excuse, we don’t believe in it."
The Golden Gophers are led by Max Brosmer who has thrown for 1,989 yards, 13 touchdowns and four interceptions. Darius Taylor has rushed for 644 yards and eight TDs, while Daniel Jackson has caught 56 passes for 642 yards and three TDs.
Meanwhile, Rutgers is on a four-game losing streak. After the loss to USC, Scarlet Knights coach Greg Schiano talked about his frustration with the offense.
“You gotta score touchdowns, right, that’s how you win games. It’s very hard to win by threes,” Schiano said, via SI. “I do think, you know, we did score some touchdowns, you know. It’s a hard decision there at the end of the half. Do you go for three? Do you go for seven? I just felt like we had missed the PAT on the touchdown, and it would give us a chance to get some momentum going into the half."
The Scarlet Knights are led by Athen Kaliakmanis who has thrown for 1,650 yards, nine TDs and five interceptions, while Kyle Monangai has rushed for 931 yards and 10 TDs.
Defensively, Shaquan Loyal has two interceptions, Kyonte Hamilton has 2.5 sacks and Dariel Djabome has 70 tackles.
Minnesota will be able to score at will, while Rutgers will continue to struggle offensively.
Prediction: Minnesota 31, Rutgers 17
