Despite the coaching change following the conclusion of the 2023 college football season, Mississippi State was largely underwhelming in 2024. Jeff Lebby finished his first season with a 2-10 record, necessitating significant changes on the team’s roster ahead of 2025.

#1. Michael Van Buren, QB
Michael Van Buren shared his announcement on social media just hours after Blake Shapen confirmed his return to MSU. As a freshman, Van Buren started eight games following Shapen's season-ending shoulder injury, throwing for 1,886 yards and 11 touchdowns.
#2. Kevin Coleman Jr., WR
Following a noteworthy season in Starkville after transferring from Louisville, Kevin Coleman Jr. is on his way out of the program. Coleman, who was the Bulldogs’ top wide receiver this season, will be joining the fourth team of his college football career in as many seasons.
#3. Chris Keys Jr., S
Chris Keys has entered the transfer portal with one year of eligibility left in college football. The safety joined Mississippi State from Indiana ahead of the 2023 season. He played in 19 games across two seasons during his tenure in Starkville, starting just one of them.
#4. Makylan Pounders, OL
Makylan Pounders transferred to Mississippi State from Memphis ahead of the 2023 season. He started six games for the Bulldogs during the season at left tackle. However, he saw a reduction in playing time as the season progressed, losing his spot to freshman Luke Work.
#5. Brice Pollock, CB
Brice Pollock shared his plans to enter the transfer portal before it opened. He was one of Mississippi State's top defensive players this season, starting all 12 games. Despite the strong chance of retaining his spot next, he’s decided to continue his career elsewhere.
#6. Creed Whittemore, WR
Creed Whittemoore was one of the players highly anticipated to hit the portal in the Bulldogs’ team. The former four-star recruit played two seasons in Starkville. Following his noteworthy freshman season, he opted out of the 2024 season and took a redshirt after Week 4.
#7. Ty Cooper, LB
Ty Cooper made some impact on MSU’s defense this season from the bench. The junior played in 11 games this season, starting just one of them. He recorded 29 tackles and one sack, tying for third on the team. He’s decided to continue his college career elsewhere.
