Mississippi State and Ole Miss renew their rivalry in the Egg Bowl, but the game has lost some luster due to the Bulldogs' bad year.
Mississippi State has yet to win an SEC game and likely won't win one this year. The Bulldogs are on a two-game losing streak, however, coach Jeff Lebby says the team will play hard knowing what this game means for the state.
"There's great understanding that this game is a huge deal. Knowing what it means to our fan base, our university, the community in Starkville," Lebby said, via FanSided.
"It's a big deal. It is a huge rivalry game. There's no way around that. Our guys who have grown up in this state, chose to come to State, they understand that. There needs to be a heightened sense of that for those that have not played inside this game. That's what we talked about yesterday and this morning."
Mississippi State is led by Michael van Buren Jr. who's thrown for 1,606 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions. Davon Booth has rushed for 721 yards and five touchdowns. Kevin Coleman Jr. has caught 68 passes for 814 yards and five touchdowns.
Defensively, the Bulldogs are led by Branden Jennings who has 1.5 sacks. Isaac Smith has 115 tackles.
Ole Miss is coming off a stunning loss to Florida which likely ended their playoff hopes. Jaxson Dart struggled in the game, as he threw multiple interceptions.
"The only thing I can really say right now is I'm sorry," Dart said, via SI. "I'm sorry to my teammates. I'm sorry to my coaches. I'm sorry for the fans. We can't lose these games.
"This one's going to hurt for a really long time. That's all I can really say now is I'm sorry. I don't really know how to describe it right now. Put a lot of time, put a lot of effort in, and it sucks when you lose these games."
Ole Miss is led by Dart who's thrown for 3,732 yards, 24 touchdowns and six interceptions. Henry Parrish Jr. has rushed for 678 yards and 10 touchdowns. Tre Harris leads the team with 1,030 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
The Rebels can still make the playoffs with three losses as long as certain teams lose in the final week or the conference championship game. However, expect Ole Miss to come out with a fire after the disappointing loss as the Rebels will blow out Mississippi State to win the Egg Bowl.
Prediction: Ole Miss 52, Mississippi State 13
