Nate Johnson is an American college football player who will play his first season with the Vanderbilt Commodores. Johnson started his football career at Clovis High School where he was named TRAC Offensive Player of the Year in his first season with the school. He was also selected to participate in the Elite 11 finals and competed in track and field where he won a championship in the 100-meter dash. In his senior season, Johnson threw for 1,672 yards and 12 touchdowns. Johnson was ranked the No.16 quarterback in the nation by 247Sports. The four-star athlete from Clovis started his collegiate football journey with Utah Utes despite considering offers from top programs like Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon State, Michigan, TCU, and UCLA.

In his freshman season, Johnson saw action in only four games where he rushed three times for 23 yards and two touchdowns in his debut against Arizona. He finished the year with five rushes for 51 yards and redshirted his rookie campaign. The following year as a redshirt freshman, Johnson saw additional playing time as he appeared in seven games while making three starts for the Utes. Last season, Johnson added 58 rushes for 232 yards and four touchdowns and mostly played as a backup. After two seasons at Utah, Johnson announced his plans to transfer to Vanderbilt in the 2024 season.
