The Navy Midshipmen started the 2024 season with a bang. The Midshipmen won their first six games before being brought back to earth by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish as they go into Week 16 with an 8-3 record.
Ahead of their Week 16 matchup against the Army, let's look at their projected starting quarterback and potential depth chart.
Navy Midshipmen's starting QB against the Army in Week 16
Braxton Woodson is set to start against the Army Black Knights in Week 16. The sophomore quarterback is typically the QB2 but will likely be entrusted with the starting role due to Blake Horvath's injury issues. Woodson started the last two games for the Midshipmen and has a 1-1 record as a starter this season.
Woodson was recruited by the Navy after a stellar high school career at Lake Brantley High School in Altamonte Springs. He showcased his athleticism by excelling in two sports in high school. Apart from his offer from the Navy, Woodson had offers from the Army Black Knights and Air Force Falcons to play collegiate football.
Navy Midshipmen's QB depth chart
According to College Football Network, there are three quarterbacks on the Navy Midshipmen depth chart: Blake Horvath, Braxton Woodson and Jackson Gutierrez. Horvath is the typical starter, while Woodson and Gutierrez are the designated backups.
Blake Horvath started the first nine games of the college football season. He led the Navy to a 7-2 record, showcasing his bounce-back ability after a difficult 2023 season. Horvath has been nominated for the 2024 Comeback Player of the Year Award, giving him a positive end to his bounce-back season.
The other quarterback on the depth chart is Jackson Gutierrez, who's in his freshman season and is soaking up knowledge from the two experienced quarterbacks ahead of him on the depth chart. He's an athletic specimen and should enjoy a tremendous collegiate football career at the Navy.
