Navy vs South Florida: Preview
Navy is a 2.5-point favorite on the road, while the over/under is set at 57.5 points.
The Midshipmen are on a two-game losing streak as they have lost to Rice and Notre Dame. In Navy's loss to Rice, it trailed 14-0 after the first quarter and couldn't come back from that.
The game had a five-hour weather delay, and despite Navy being a big favorite, the team couldn't get the job done.
Navy quarterback Blake Horvath has thrown for 1,096 yards, 10 touchdowns and four interceptions. He's also the team's leading rusher as he's rushed for 814 yards and 12 touchdowns.
On defense, Dashaun Peele has four interceptions, Justin Reed has 4.5 sacks, and Colin Ramos leads the team with 92 tackles.
South Florida, meanwhile, is on a two-game winning streak.
The Bulls have quarterback Bryce Archie starting after Byrum Brown suffered an injury. USF coach Alex Golesh has been pleased with what he has seen from Archie.
"What you've seen from Bryce the last three weeks is just growth every single week,'' Golesh said, via the team website. "He allows you to coach him. It has been awesome, even on the sideline. What you see, he can communicate it. There are no highs, no lows. It's 'here's what I saw, here's what I did,' which makes it super, super easy to coach.
"You want to see growth in your football team and certainly in your quarterback. It's absolutely critical. I think just his ability to get coached, his ability to communicate, that's why you've seen the jumps that you've seen. He has very much been growing in front of our eyes, growing as a leader. I think Bryce has always had that, but it's hard to see it until you're really under the lights.''
Archie threw for 739 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions this season. Kelley Joiner leads the team with 453 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, while Sean Atkins leads with 415 receiving yards.
Defensively, Jhalyn Shuler has two interceptions, Rico Watson, Decarius Hawthorne and Ira Singleton have 2.5 sacks, and Mac Harris leads the way with 51 tackles.
Navy will likely play much better after a disappointing showing last time out. Although the Bulls are on a two-game winning streak, this is still a good spot for the Midshipmen to go on the road and rely on its defense to edge out a win here.
Prediction: Navy 31, South Florida 24
