The NC State Wolfpack travel to Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina, on Saturday afternoon as they face the No. 21-ranked Clemson Tigers in ACC action. These teams are looking to continue their strong starts, and this should be an interesting matchup.
The Wolfpack (2-1, 0-0 ACC) are coming off Saturday's 30-20 home victory over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. Backup quarterback freshman CJ Bailey took the reigns and struggled, as he went 13 of 20 for 156 yards with an interception but also ran four times for 27 yards (6.8 yards per attempt) and a rushing touchdown.
The Tigers (1-1, 0-0) were off last week but secured a massive 66-20 home win on Sept. 7 against the Appalachian State Mountaineers in their most recent game. Junior quarterback Cade Klubnik stepped up in the game as he went 24 of 26 for 378 yards with five passing touchdowns and zero interceptions as well as a pair of rushing attempts for five yards (2.5 yards per carry) and two rushing touchdowns.
NC State vs. Clemson prediction
There is a reason why the NC State Wolfpack are unranked while the Clemson Tigers are in the top 25. The old adage in betting is that good teams win but great teams cover, and the Wolfpack are 0-3 against the spread thus far.
Clemson has the advantage of being at home as well as having last week off. With Grayson McCall dealing with an undisclosed injury, this could be a start for CJ Bailey, and both quarterbacks have been inferior to what the play of Cade Klubnik has been this season.
Klubnik has been able to pass incredibly well this season, as he is averaging 260.0 passing yards per game and does not make many mistakes with his passes. With a 76.4 completion percentage, he is going to get the ball to the open man and spread it around to his teammates.
Tight end Jake Briningstool is the only player at Clemson with multiple touchdowns, so go with him to dominate and for the Tigers to simply control the game with the distinct advantages they have here.
