Colorado's QB1 Shedeur Sanders had a tough year last season. Because of the weak offensive line, he got sacked over 50 times throughout the season compared to Oregon's Bo Nix, who only got sacked six times.
Colorado had an electrifying start to the season with back-to-back victories against TCU, Nebraska and Colorado State. However, their winning streak was ended by Dan Lanning's team.
While the Cornhuskers lost in a 36-14 showdown, there was a lot of controversy surrounding the matchup.
Almost a year later, Matt Rhule spoke about Sanders while conversing with college football analyst Joel Klatt. He applauded Colorado QB's resilience during the marquee matchup:
"He is one of the best football players i've ever coached against, and, you know, we blitzed him. I think we sacked him like 10 times, and we hit him a ton, and he stood in there. I know everyone sees you know Shedeur on commercials. They see him, you know, they see the swagger that he plays with."
"But he's an unbelievable competitor, and he's tough. And so to me, you take you know shedeur, Travis Hunter. You take all the players that they have take, obviously, Coach Sanders, you know, they're going to come into our place. They're a really good football team with dynamic players that you have to compete."
Can Shedeur Sanders lead Colorado toward CFB playoffs?
Shedeur Sanders is arguably one of the best quarterbacks in the country. He is among the top contenders to bag the prestigious 2024 Heisman Trophy.
Colorado's biggest problem last year was their offensive line. Coach Deion Sanders has tackled this by adding former Houston OL Khalil Benson, 5-star recruit Jordan Seaton and UTEP transfer Justin Meyers, among other names.
Talking about how the new offensive line can help Shedeur Sanders win more games for Colorado, Joel Klatt stated:
"I'm looking at your team, your improvement on the offensive line, and I'm thinking to myself, 'OK, if Shedeur only gets sacked half of the time – so, let's say less than 25 times, that's four more wins. Easy.'"
Fans will be intrigued to see how the new roster can help Deion Sanders' Colorado beat its 4-8 record this season.
