New Mexico vs San Diego State: Preview
New Mexico is a three-point underdog on the road while the over/under is set at 68 points.
The Lobos are coming off a frustrating loss to Wyoming in a game where their defense struggled.
"It's 45 points," New Mexico's head coach Bronco Mendenhall said, via Yahoo. "Bottom line is, that's plenty to win... Too many mistakes on our part for sure. And not making enough critical plays at the right time — even though there (were) lots of plays made and lots of points scored, ultimately it comes down to executing when you need to in the critical moments."
In the loss, New Mexico was led by Devin Dampier who threw for 164 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 207 yards and three touchdowns.
This season, the Lobos have been led by Dampier who's thrown for 2,243 yards, 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He's also rushed for 745 yards and 13 touchdowns.
San Diego State, meanwhile, is also on a two-game losing streak and coming off a 56–24 road loss to Boise State.
“We'll clean it up, we'll learn from, obviously, the hard lessons that we felt tonight,” coach Sean Lewis said, via The Sporting Tribune. “There'll be some individual victories and moments that we can take confidence from… We’ll) be able to take those lessons, take those moments where we learn and where we grow and move forward and get ready to play another dangerous team Friday.”
The Aztecs are led by Danny O'Neill who has thrown for 1,395 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions. Marquez Cooper has rushed for 842 yards and nine touchdowns.
Defensively, Trey White leads the way with 11.5 sacks and Tano Letuli with 44 tackles.
This should be a close game as San Diego State and New Mexico have struggled this season. The Aztecs' offense, however, should be able to succeed against this Lobos defense, which gave up 49 points to Wyoming.
This game will be a back-and-forth shootout, but at home, SDSU will be able to edge out a win in a game that could even go to overtime.
Prediction: San Diego State 38, New Mexico 34
