College football is not all the same for Nick Saban after his retirement. Now part of ESPN and SEC Network, the former Alabama head coach found himself in an unexpected situation as he was denied entry at the 2024 SEC Media Days.

Saban, who’s never needed a credential in his illustrious 17-year career at Alabama, was denied entry for forgetting it. He quipped during a segment on Get Up:

"I’ve never worn a credential in my life. Was always, for 17 years, able to get into SEC Media Day without a credential. I had to go back to the room today to get my credential to get in. So, that’s one of the biggest changes I see."

Fans took to X to share their amusement, creating a slew of memes about Saban’s credential mishap. Let’s take a look at the top 10 memes that are cracking up the internet!

SEC Commissioner asks Nick Saban to help out on CFB issues

Nick Saban may no longer be on the gridiron sidelines, but his influence is far from over. SEC commissioner Greg Sankey discussed how the legendary coach can contribute to college football.

“Help us avoid rat poison would be the first on the list,” Sankey said. “One of the things I found over time is Nick, in many ways, uniquely thought ahead on issues, provided really deep and clear insight.”

The 72-year-old has been known for being a step ahead owing to his strategic thinking, which brings clarity to complex issues. Sankey believes in the importance of Saban’s continued involvement. He added:

“He can bring an understanding that even I don’t have dealing with these issues on the front lines as a head football coach, and I know he brings a love of the game overall to an analysis”

With over 50 years of coaching experience, Saban has been a vocal advocate against issues facing college football.

“I have seen him engage in conversations already in a big-picture problem-solving way, and I hope that will continue,” Sankey said.

Sankey hopes Saban will remain a leading voice in his new capacity.
