The Pac-12 is getting closer to extinction, and there is more news surrounding the Washington State Cougars and Oregon State Beavers. Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger reported Wednesday that the two universities are taking the next steps for governance over the conference's assets.
Oregon State and Washington State have filed a motion for a preliminary injunction in their court battle against the 10 current Pac-12 programs and commissioner George Kliavkoff.
The case surrounds the two schools being the only voting members of the Pac-12 Board of Directors until the final judgment has been reached, as they are the two schools that have not announced a new conference to call home after the season.
Oregon State and Washington State have produced documents that support the claim as their bylaws state a member loses voting representation on the board when they withdraw from the league.
The two schools are saying they are afraid the other 10 members will out-vote them to distribute the financial assets, said to be worth more than $100 million, to themselves 12 ways instead of the two remaining members.
The two parties are currently in mediation, and the next hearing is slated for Nov. 14. If there is no settlement by that date, the hearing will be about the voting rights and control of the Conference of Champions.
Without the injunction, the league is in a state of flux. Last month, the court ruled the Pac-12 board was not allowed to meet and could not make decisions without unanimous consent.

What is next for the Pac-12 Conference?
Until we get an answer about who is in control of the conference, there is nothing that can go on. There will not be any unanimous vote as the two sides are in a legal tiff. This fight can drag on for months, if not a year, and it would be difficult to see an ending with both sides happy.
The Pac-12 is a conference that had poor leadership from commissioner George Kliavkoff and never had a chance of survival. With just Oregon State and Washington State remaining as of now, things are going to be interesting to see what the next steps for a Power Five conference fade into extinction.
