Quinn Ewers and the Texas Longhorns had a rough first half in the Cotton Bowl on Friday. While the signal-caller scored one touchdown and managed a not-terrible 133 yards in half a game, the Longhorns offense looked sluggish. Their only inspiring moment came toward the end of the first quarter when Ewers connected an 18-yard touchdown pass to Jaydon Blue to tie the game at 7-7.
However, the positive momentum went away as easily as it had come. In his first pass of the following offensive drive by Ohio State, Will Howard connected a 75-yard pass to TreVeyon Henderson.
Fans had a laugh at the expense of Quinn Ewers, with memes all over. Here are some of them:
As always, Texas fans seem to be craving for Arch Manning as a starter.
Ewers' behavior in the pocket was criticized.
When compared to Ohio State's Will Howard, Quinn Ewers has had poor numbers. The Buckeyes signal-caller has recorded 200 passing yards, with one touchdown pass.
He's averaging 10.5 yards per pass completed, much better than Ewer's 6.7 per pass. In probably the most significant difference in performance, Howard has completed 14 of 19 passes, while Texas's signal-caller has only completed 10 of 20 attempts.
Texas' Matthew Golden leaves the Cotton Bowl
Wide receiver Matthew Golden suffered a foot injury in the first half against Ohio State Buckeyes.
Initially, he returned to the field after visiting the medical tent, but after two offensive drives where he limped off the field and only contributed a facemask penalty while blocking, the Texas player headed off to the locker room.
He was seen on the sidelines in the aftermath, feeling out his foot, but ESPN already confirmed he won't play again during the Cotton Bowl. Entering the second half, Ohio State leads Texas 14-7.
