Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward is both in the running for the Heisman Trophy and a potential top pick in the 2025 NFL draft. However, for some teams, Ward may not be a wanted pick.
On Wednesday's edition of "The Herd with Colin Cowherd," the host asked former Dallas Cowboy Michael Irvin for his view on the "edginess" of Ward. Giving a fairly animated response throughout, Irvin, who has a net worth of $12 million according to Celebritynetworth.com, had this to say.
“Lips start spilling these things”
To Irvin, these concerns are all rumors and speculation that take attention away from what Ward has been able to do on the field.
This season, Ward has been able to throw for 4,123 yards and 36 touchdowns. This year has been strong for him and it looked like he would take the Hurricanes into the College Football Playoff and make the ACC Championship game.
However, this was not meant to be. Two late-season losses to Georgia Tech and Syracuse removed any chance that Ward and the Hurricanes had to make postseason playoff game.
However, despite losing those games, Ward did not underperform and was able to record over 300 yards in those two games.
With the Hurricanes out of the College Football Playoff, attention now turns to Cam Ward's Heisman Trophy bid and his potential draft stock.
He will be constantly compared to the Colorado Buffaloes' Shedeur Sanders (the other top quarterback in the class) in the coming weeks and months. The two will battle to be the highest-picked quarterback in the 2025 Draft class.
Cam Ward to New York?
The team that Cam Ward may be drafted by is potentially already known. Former Miami Hurricanes booster Nevin Shapiro made an appearance on Wednesday's edition of "The Pacman Jones Show," where he said this.
"I’m being told through reliable sources Cam Ward is going to the New York Giants."
The New York Giants need a quarterback. After the benching and then release of Daniel Jones, the team is without a franchise quarterback to lead the struggling unit. They are likely to have two or three wins this season, putting them in contention for the top spot in the draft, thus in the race for Ward.
Ward will be able to benefit from the likes of former LSU Tigers wide receiver Malik Nabers to help move the offense forward. However, just bringing in Ward will not suddenly make the team contenders.
They are going to need to add more weapons on the offense, and maybe a new coaching staff if the Giants are going to become relevant again.
