Lane Kiffin and his Ole Miss Rebels side have had a mixed season. They came into it with hopes of making an expanded College Football Playoff, but late season losses would put an end of this. The Rebels finished the season with a 9-3 record, and this was enough to give them a bowl game spot.
This game was the Gator Bowl, which was played on Thursday. Kiffin's Rebels were able to defeat the Duke Blue Devils, 52-20. This is the largest bowl game win in Ole Miss history. Upon finding this fact out, Kiffin, who has a net worth of $14 million according to Celebritynetworth.com, posted the following on social media.
"That’s cool!!!"
This was a comprehensive win over a Duke program that started the season with a 5-0 record, aided by quarterback Malik Murphy, but soon faltered.
The Rebels led the game from the first score, and the performance of quarterback Jaxson Dart was one of his best. In what was his final game for the program, he threw for 404 yards and four touchdowns.
Speaking about his quarterback after the game, Kiffin told the media:
“Jaxson has been an amazing leader... He came in, set records, and inspired the younger players.”
He also took aim at Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia (who has recently announced that he is going to return for another year in college football) in his praise of Dart.
"It’s awesome. He’s (Jaxson Dart) playing great. You never know. Maybe he’ll file a waiver and come back another year."
Jaxson Dart has become a key part of the Ole Miss offense. Now, Kiffin is going to have to find his replacement and hope that whoever it is lives up to Dart.
What was Ole Miss' bowl game record before the Gator Bowl win?
The 52-20 victory for the Ole Miss Rebels over the Duke Blue Devils was a record-breaking win for the Rebels. The 32-point gap is the largest margin of victory for Ole Miss in a bowl game.
But, what was the record before this? Fans do not need to go far back for this.
Before the recent Gator Bowl, the record was previously set at the 2015 Sugar Bowl. This was a game where the Rebels faced the Oklahoma State Cowboys and would win the game 48-20, making the margin of victory 28 points.
In this game, then-Rebels quarterback Chad Kelly (who became the final pick of the 2017 NFL Draft) threw for 302 yards and for four touchdowns, as he defeated Mason Rudolph's Cowboys.
