It would not be a Texas Longhorns gameday without an appearance from legendary actor Matthew McConaughey. He is in Atlanta as the Texas Longhorns face the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game.
Before the big game, McConaughey, who has a net worth of $160 million according to Celebritynetworth.com, posted a message of support for his Texas Longhorns on X (formally Twitter), which read:
"no show all dough. muscle and hustle - texas tricep #hookem @TexasFootball @TexasLonghorns @SEC"
This Texas Longhorns side is a real contender for the national championship, and every player on the team has earned their spot in the team.
The Longhorns' defense has been key in their last few games, and they are likely to have a busy day again trying to stop a Georgia offense that ran rings around them when the teams last met earlier in the season.
If they can stop Carson Beck from moving the ball down the field, they stand a very good chance of winning. But, even if Beck has a good day (something that he hasn't in recent weeks), the Longhorns offense will be able to keep up with the Bulldogs.
Led by quarterback Quinn Ewers, the Texas Longhorns have many talented receivers, such as Gunnar Helm and Isaiah Bond, both of whom are likely to be common targets for Ewers.
But the Longhorns also have a "secret weapon" of Arch Manning. Manning is not only a skilled quarterback but has proved himself to be very strong with his feet. He is likely to be used in the game for his rushing ability to compensate for Quinn Ewers' inability to do this due to his ankle injury.
McConaughey is at the Texas Longhorns game, but Bevo is not
While McConaughey, a familiar sight at Texas Longhorns games, will be in Atlanta for the SEC Championship game, another familiar face will not be in Atlanta.
Bevo, the life mascot of the Texas Longhorns, is generally seen at Texas home games and numerous big road games. But, he will not make an appearance in Atlanta due to "space concerns." A statement from the SEC confirming the "ban" read:
"When we received the request for Bevo to be on the sideline in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, our staff looked at several alternatives including the sideline location. The reality is there is limited sideline space at the stadium. We can’t jeopardize the safety of Bevo or the game participants. With the narrow sidelines, location of multiple sets for television and camera carts, there is not enough space. While we want to honor tradition across the conference, the space limitation is a reality. We did identify several options for Bevo including a location at SEC FanFare but there was no opportunity for him to be in the stadium due to space."
While Bevo is banned, the Bulldogs' live mascot, Uga, will be at the game. The ban will also be seen as preventing potential conformation between the two, as the last time the two met in 2019, Bevo charged at Uga.
