The biggest game of week two in the 2024 college football season features a showdown between the Texas Longhorns against the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor at the Big House on September 7. The Longhorns, ranked No. 3 in the AP Poll, will face the No. 10 Wolverines, who are navigating college football with first-year coach Sherrone Moore.
Ahead of the game, the Longhorns' "Minister of Culture," Matthew McConaughey had a message for Wolverines fan Derek Jeter who was on the set of FOX's "Big Noon Kickoff." McConaughey, who is worth $160 million (per Celebrity Net Worth) is a Texas superfan. He sent a video message recorded on an airplane, which was later aired on the show.
"Don't know if I'm gonna make it there to be live on your show but I'm hopping on a train, then I'm hopping on a boat then I'm rowing in a canoe then I'm jogging the last eighteen miles and I'll be there by game time. Jeter, I hope it's gonna be a long day for you Big Blue, coming in hot, hook 'em," McConaughey said.

Texas title aspirations on the line versus Michigan
The Longhorns and the Wolverines do not have a lot of history together and have met once before during a 38-37 win for the Longhorns during the 2005 Rose Bowl. The Longhorns have +750 odds to win the national championship against the reigning champion's +3500 odds.
ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky recently appeared on an episode of the "Get Up" show and made the claim that the path to the college football playoffs for coach Steve Sarkisian's team goes through beating the Wolverines in Ann Arbor.
“If Texas wants to make the College Football Playoff — even at 12 teams — they gotta win this game. Because if you go to the middle of October, they’re going to play in back-to-back weeks Oklahoma and Georgia," Orlovsky said.
"So if you’re going to Michigan and you want to give yourself just a little padding when it comes to that two-game stretch, that’s going to be paramount to go win this football game. And you end the season on the road against Texas A&M, who we saw is going to be a very capable team.”
The Michigan Wolverines lost 17 starters to the 2024 NFL Draft which accounts for their No. 10 AP Poll ranking and the fact that they're No. 3 favorites for the Big Ten championship.
Since former national championship-winning coach Jim Harbaugh's heyday, the Wolverines have won 29 straight regular season games and a win for the Texas Longhorns in the Big House would be a huge statement to the rest of college football.
