EA Sports College Football 25 is a huge success, with $200 million in sales just three days after release, and most of that coming from the early access program. The game completed a long-awaited return of college athletics to the video game industry after nearly almost a decade-long hiatus.
EA was forced to drop its previous series, NCAA Football, and Basketball, due to lawsuits from student-athletes complaining about the use of their image and likeness without them receiving any proceeds.
NIL deals changed that landscape and allowed players to receive their share of the pie from video games like EA Sports College Football 25. Reports put the number of copies sold of the Deluxe Edition at 2.2 million in just three days despite the price tag of $99.9. If that proves anything, the demand for a college football video game is real.
EA Sports College Football 25 is a huge success not only for Electronic Arts
There's been some talk that this generation of consoles, the PS5 and Xbox S and X series, had been lacking a decade-defining title like some of the Halo series and Call of Duty series games were. EA Sports FIFA (Now EA Sports FC) series would fall into that category.
It appears that some industry insiders think that College Football 25 is on the verge of becoming that iconic. Mat Piscatella, executive director of video games at Circana tweeted this on July 18:
"According to Circana's Player Engagement Tracker, on July 17th, EA Sports College Football ranked #3 in US daily active users on Xbox Series (behind only Call of Duty HQ and Fortnite) and 4th on PS5 (COD, Fortnite & GTAV)... and it's still just in early access. Phew."
"Looks like EA Sports College Football 25 may indeed be the mass market breakout hit this console gen really needs right now."
EA Sports continue to demonstrate the ability to dominate the sports video games genre. EA Sports College Football 25 joins a catalog of industry-dominant titles that include EA Sports FC, NFL Madden, PGA Tour and EA NHL.
