Travis Hunter declares intention to be a two-way star in the NFL

With Travis Hunter excelling on both sides of the ball, he has climbed the Heisman Trophy rankings and his draft stock has risen. The question remaining is whether he could continue to play on both sides of the ball in the NFL.

During an interview with USA Today on Thursday, Hunter revealed that he intends to declare for the NFL draft and that he would continue to pursue his two-way status.

“Oh yeah,” Hunter said. “That’s definitely for sure. They said I couldn’t do it in college (being a two-way player). I ended up doing it in college. So a lot of people telling me I can’t do it in the NFL, but I’m gonna still do it in the NFL.
“They don’t want me to be a high risk, you know, if I go top pick − they don’t want their top pick to go down too early. … I believe I can do it. Nobody has stopped me from doing it this far. I believe I can keep doing it, and I like it when people can tell me I can’t do it because it just motivates me to continue to do what I want to do."

In his weekly column, ESPN draft expert Matt Miller projected Travis Hunter to be picked No. 2 overall by the Cleveland Browns.

"But NFL decision-makers I've talked to expect Cleveland to bring in a veteran to compete while using the draft to upgrade the roster at other spots," Miller wrote. "If that's the strategy, drafting the most electric player in the nation is a good start. Hunter, who excels at both wide receiver and cornerback, has an opportunity to jumpstart the Browns as a full-time player at one spot."

Wherever Travis Hunter ends up, there is a consensus among draft experts that he will be a high first round pick and could play both ways even at the professional level.
