With the college football regular season drawing to a close, the rumors connecting Deion Sanders to the Dallas Cowboys keep increasing. Despite their Thanksgiving win against the New York Giants, the Cowboys' season remains an unmitigated disaster. The rumors are that Mike McCarthy's time at Dallas is coming to an end and many believe that Deion Sanders will be the one to replace him.
One of those is LeSean McCoy, who in a recent episode of The Facility on Fox Sports 1 said:
"Times have changed... (Bill) Belichick is a great coach in his own way, his own right... But it's like time have changed and dudes than really can last as older coaches. Guys like Andy Reid... Andy Reid can have a conversation with anybody in that locker room, he makes you all feel comfortable... And the other thing with Deion, he brings you that.
"It's a new day and age baby... All I'm saying is Deion Sanders, imagine him being your coach. You see everything he does, everywhere he goes, he wins. Jackson State? I know nothing about Jackson. I start tuning into him right in the history of they weren't that good till they got him.
"You go to Colorado, they won one game before he got there... now look what's going on. It's booming in Colorado. So all I'm saying is that it could be the same thing for the Cowboys. They might need that excitement. Get that thing going a little bit, getting a little smart. He's a hell of a coach. He wins everywhere it goes, and let's be honest. We never see Deion losing."
Truth be told Deion Sanders has managed to turn around the Colorado Buffaloes, although the change wasn't immediate. In 2022, Colorado ended 1-11. In Sanders' first season as their coach, they went 4-8. They're currently on track to end the regular season 9-3 and they still have a chance to qualify to the Big 12 championship game.
Deion Sanders to give his Jim Thorpe Award to Travis Hunter
In other news, Travis Hunter has been snubbed from being selected for the finalists list of the Jim Thorpe Award. Understandably, Deion Sanders is one of those incensed by the decision by voters. Here's what he told the media:
“How? How is Travis Hunter snubbed by the Jim Thorpe Award? You can have my award. You can have it back. Matter of fact, I’m gonna give him mine. I ain’t using it, just sitting up there collecting dust.”
"If this ain’t the most idiotic thing in college football, that he’s not a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, how in the world is Travis Hunter not a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award? They just pretty much messed up all the integrity of the award, and he can have mine. Whoever’s voting down there, whoever is bringing it home — thank you, because I don’t even want mine now.”
Texas's Jahdae Barron, Ohio State’s Caleb Downs, and Georgia’s Malaki Starks were named the finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award. The Buffaloes will end their regular season at home against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
