A Colorado superfan gifted Travis Hunter with a signed Rashaan Salaam jersey during an event on Friday. Salaam is the only Colorado player to have ever won the Heisman Trophy. The running back played for the Buffaloes from 1992 to 1994. In his Heisman Trophy-winning season, Salaam had 24 touchdowns and over 2000 rushing yards.

Travis Hunter is widely considered the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy this year. The two-way star was fantastic throughout the season, helping No. 20 Colorado exceed their offseason projections.

With speculation still flying around regarding the Heisman race, Hunter, who has a NIL value worth $3.8 million according to On3, is receiving love and support from the Colorado fan base to win the award.

Boise State coach Spencer Danielson made a case for Ashton Jeanty in the Heisman Trophy race on Monday, ahead of the Mountain West championship game against UNLV. Jeanty is one of Hunter's rivals in the race for the coveted award.

Danielson did not directly mention Travis Hunter's accomplishments but highlighted the edge that Ashton Jeanty has because he would be playing at the championship level.

“Ashton Jeanty is the best football player in the country,” Danielson said during Monday’s press conference. “And for me, if you’re one of the best players in the country, you play in a championship game.”

The Mountain West title game provides Jeanty with a chance to strengthen his Heisman candidacy. Colorado narrowly missed out on the Big 12 championship game despite their 9-3 record this season.

On the other hand, many experts have strongly supported Hunter's bid for the Heisman Trophy. Former ESPN personality, Rick Reily took to social media on Monday to share his opinion about the race.

"If Colorado's Travis Hunter doesn't win the Heisman after the unthinkable year he just had, they need to melt it down, make gold bullets and shoot every writer who didn't vote for him," Reily wrote on X.

X users condemned this tweet for its tone and said that Reily should not threaten Heisman Trophy voters by using such language in his tweets.
