The Colorado Buffaloes head coach, Deion Sanders, attended this year's Big 12 Media Day at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. After missing out on last year's media day action for medical reasons, the coach was ready to show up and stand up for his team.
The Buffs went 4-8 last year, which has naturally made fans and critics question the team's credibility and raised concerns as to how the team will fare this year. Coach Prime was ready to answer all the questions that were brewing in the fans and reporters' minds.
So, take a look at three strong statements Deion Sanders delivered to various questions.
#1 Deion Sanders "mad at" Colorado AD
The Colorado Buffaloes have become part of the Big 12 which means the team will be facing Oklahoma State Cowboys, TCU Horned Frogs, and Iowa State Cyclones.
Sanders did not show hesitation when asked about playing against the mentioned teams, but it is the game against North Dakota State that has seemingly occupied his mind.
Out of comic frustration, Sanders said:
"They're really darn good, and I am mad at (CU athletic director) Rick (George) right now for putting them on the schedule to open up. Can you give me a layup to start?"
#2 Coach Prime gave a shoutout to the Big 12 commissioner
During his interview, the Buffs HC recognized Brett Yormark's efforts in expanding the Big 12 to 16 teams. Deion Sanders said:
"This is unbelievable. Brett, you did the doggone thing, I think we have the best commissioner in football. He’s a baller, shot-caller and a boss," Sanders said.
#3 Sanders talked about the expectations he faces as a Buffs HC
The second-year Colorado Buffs coach said that his wins and losses are not as binary as people think. To clarify this, he said:
"I’m judged on a different scale. My wins are totally different than your wins. Your wins—you're just judging football."
"That's why I have to start out and give you education and academics and so forth. I have to give you those things so you understand there's a greater scope. I can't win nine games and our GPA suffers. Our GPA can't be high but we lose another eight games. ... My wins are different. We have to win in every area. That's the way we're judged, and I'm cool with that because we come a little different so the expectations is greater."
