The 2024 college football season is less than a month away as play will begin on August 24 with eight teams taking the field. While none of the Big 12's 16 teams are among the group that will play on the opening weekend, each of the programs will begin their season the following week.
The conference will have a new look this year. The Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns made the move to the SEC while the Arizona Wildcats, Arizona State Sun Devils, Colorado Buffaloes and Utah Utes all came over from the Pac-12. Take a look at three quarterbacks - all of whom have been placed on the 2024 Maxwell Award watch list - who could be busts in 2024 below.
3 Big 12 QBs who could be a bust in the 2024 college football season
#1: Cameron Rising
Cameron Rising initially joined the Texas Longhorns as a three-star prospect in the 2018 recruiting class before joining the Utah Utes via the transfer portal the following season. He has thrown for 5,572 yards, 46 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He has completed 64.0% of his pass attempts while adding 953 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 152 carries.
Rising is set to return to the field after missing all of 2023 with a torn ACL, MCL, MPFL, and meniscus. It is unclear how he will look in his return to the field as the Utes join the Big 12.
#2: Noah Fifita
Noah Fifita joined the Arizona Wildcats as a three-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class. He has thrown for 2,997 yards, 26 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 71.0% of his passes. While he broke out after taking over the starting role due to injury, he does not have a track record of production and will have to show that his production was not a fluke as he moves to the Big 12.
#3: Jalon Daniels
Jalon Daniels joined the Kansas Jayhawks as a three-star prospect in the 2020 recruiting class. He has thrown for 4,297 yards, 31 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He has completed 63.6% of his passes while adding 602 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 210 carries.
Daniels has played well during his collegiate career, however, he has struggled to stay on the field. It remains to be seen if he can stay healthy in 2024.
