Deion Sanders started coaching at the collegiate level with Jackson State in 2020. He moved on to coach the Colorado Buffaloes, starting in the 2023 season.

During his time as a coach, Sanders has won 35 games and lost 15. Here is a look at some of the notable moments in his coaching career to date.

Three achievements in the coaching career of Deion Sanders

Winning Two SWAC Championships

During the three seasons he was with Jackson State, he guided the Tigers to two consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference championships. The first one came in 2021, when Sanders led the team to the championship game, having gone undefeated in conference play and only losing to the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks during the regular season. Jackson State won the SWAC title in 2021 after a convincing victory over Prairie View A&M, and played in the Celebration Bowl, which ended in a loss to South Carolina State.

In 2022, Jackson State and Sanders again advanced to the SWAC championship game. The Tigers entered with an undefeated regular season record, which was kept alive by defeating the Southern Tigers. Sanders and Jackson State returned to the Celebration Bowl, which ended in another loss, this time by North Carolina Central.

Shedeur Sanders' 2023 season

One of the first things that Deion Sanders did when he arrived at the Colorado Buffaloes was to bring his son to Boulder through the transfer portal. Shedeur, who already showed his potential at Jackson State, quickly became the Buffaloes' starting quarterback, and his 2023 season was extremely impressive.

Sanders threw for 3,230, which included a single game where he threw for 510 yards. These are all-time records for Colorado, the latter of which was achieved in Sanders' first game with the team. The 27 touchdowns that he scored are the Buffaloes' second highest amount all-time, with former QB Sefo Liufau's record of 28 still standing. Bringing Shedeur onto the team will add to Deion's legacy.

Setting a World Record

Finally, Deion Sanders was involved in an actual Guinness World Record. In 2023, Coach Prime and the Buffaloes, in conjunction with UCHealth, a non-profit healthcare organization, attempted the world record for "biggest American football lesson."

The previous record was set at 250 people, but Colorado's lesson was for an audience of 280 people, setting the new world record.

The lesson was football drills and the participants were mostly children. While this is not an on-the-field achievement, engaging in charity work with his college team is just as important.
