The 2024 college football season is in full swing as the calendar shifts to Week 4. While several teams have remained dominant in the early portion of the season, there have been plenty of shocking upsets. Some programs have simply failed to live up to the hype while others have struggled even more than expected, leading to their coach's seats to begin heating up.

There were three games in Week 3 that fans may look back on as key moments when evaluating these programs. Here's a closer look at three losses from this past weekend that could prove catastrophic.

3 losses in Week 3 of 2024 college football season that could prove catastrophic for teams

#1. Florida Gators

The Florida Gators have been poor to start the 2024 college football season. Their lone win came against an FCS program while they have suffered two embarrassing home losses. Florida has struggled in both the passing and running game, as well as on defense. Furthermore, they have turned the ball over six times compared to just two forced turnovers on defense.

Their 33-20 Week 3 loss to the Texas A&M Aggies saw all those issues on display as they averaged just 2.1 yards per carry. The Gators did not force a single turnover, while turning the ball over three times, including a pick-six. Furthermore, Billy Napier's seat continues to get hotter.

#2. Florida State Seminoles

The Florida State Seminoles have been the biggest disappointment in college football. While they entered the season ranked No. 10 in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll and without playing their first road game until Week 5, they are now 0-3. While Mike Norvell likely has more job security than Napier, their 20-12 Week 3 loss to the Memphis Tigers could ensure they fail to reach the College Football Playoff.

#3. Mississippi State Bulldogs

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are another program that suffered an embarrassing home loss in Week 3 as they fell to the Toledo Rockets in a 41-17 blowout. The Bulldogs lost the turnover battle and could not stop the pass or the run in the loss. While Jeff Lebby is in his first year leading the program, SEC coaches who lose to Group of Five programs at home don't typically last long.
