Utah suffered another loss Saturday in Week 12 when it traveled to Boulder to play No. 18 Colorado. The Utes have been largely disappointing this season, and the story continued against the Buffaloes.
The Utes were Big 12 championship favorites during the offseason, but they have struggled to win games. There are a handful of reasons Utah dropped the game against Deion Sanders' team Saturday. Here's a look at three of them.
Three reasons Utah lost to Colorado
#3. Colorado’s offensive prowess
Colorado’s brilliance on offense was crucial to securing the 49-24 victory over Utah. Led by Shedeur Sanders, the Buffaloes have been astonishing on offense this season, which has been crucial to the team's impressive run.
The Buffaloes recorded 405 yards in total offense in the encounter on Saturday compared to the Utes’ 272 yards. Sanders went 30 of 41 for 340 yards and three touchdowns.
#2. Utah’s slump continues
Contrary to widespread expectations and experts' projections during the offseason, Utah has been abysmal on the field. The Utes entered the game with five losses in a row, making the Buffaloes a clear favorite.
Colorado, on the other hand, has been impressive this season despite many pundits counting it out during the offseason. Its level of confidence entering into the game was hard to match for a struggling Utah team.
Utah started the season on a good note, winning its first four games. However, the Utes' loss against the Buffaloes marks their sixth consecutive loss with little hope of redemption.
#1. Travis Hunter’s two-way brilliance
Travis Hunter has been outstanding on both sides of the ball this season, and the two-way star leads the race for the Heisman Trophy with his strong overall performance for the Buffaloes.
He was impressive again on offense and defense against Utah. The former five-star prospect scored his first career rushing touchdown in a superb move while also recording a crucial interception.
Hunter's overall performance made it difficult for the Utes to get something out of the matchup.
