The 2024 college football season continues to get more interesting as we draw closer to its end. So far, it’s been an exciting season, filled with surprises in many quarters.

Week 11 had a lot of electrifying games with stunning outcomes. While a couple of teams secured big wins, others recorded losses that were definitive to their season. Here’s a look at three teams that suffered the most costly defeats in Week 11.

3 college football teams that suffered the costliest defeats in Week 11

#1. LSU

LSU fell to Alabama in Baton Rouge on Saturday night, marking the end of the Tigers’ 15-game winning streak under the light. The 42-13 loss was a disappointing one for Brian Kelly's team as the matchup held a significant postseason implication for both teams.

With the home defeat on Saturday, the Tigers are no longer in contention for the College Football Playoff. It marked the third defeat of the season for the Tigers after previously falling to USC and Texas A&M. Missing out on the expanded playoff is a major setback for the program.

There are many teams in the Power Four chasing the at-large spots in the playoffs. This gives LSU little to no chance of getting consideration at the end of the season.

#2. Georgia

Georgia recorded a shocking loss to Ole Miss in Oxford on Saturday. The Bulldogs were considered favorites for the encounter and have been superior to the Rebels in recent years. However, Ole Miss stunned Kirby Smart's team with a 28-10 win.

The weekend loss means Georgia’s playoff hope is now in jeopardy. The Bulldogs can no longer afford any further defeat this season to keep their postseason ambition alive. Dropping the game on Saturday has done a lot of damage to the reputation of Smart and his team.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to play Tennessee, UMass and Georgia Tech for the rest of the 2024 regular season. Winning the three games has now become more important than ever.

#3. Texas Tech

Texas Tech improved its chances of reaching the Big 12 championship game with an upset against Iowa State in Week 10. A win against Colorado on Saturday would have made that more realistic but the Red Raiders were defeated at home by the Buffaloes.

Throughout the season, Texas Tech has counted on its offense to secure wins, especially in the closing stages of games. However, despite the brilliant start to the game, the Red Raiders offense didn't live up to expectations in the later part of the game, suffering a 41-27 loss.

Following the loss, the Red Raiders will now look to secure bowl eligibility with hopes of the conference title game appearance and a playoff spot completely dashed.
