The first-seed Oregon Ducks will face the eight-seed Ohio State Buckeyes on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff.

In the build-up to this game, former Florida and Ohio State coach Urban Meyer made an appearance on "The Triple Option" podcast to preview the game. During this interview, Meyer, whose net worth is $35 million according to Celebritynetworth.com, gave the following pieces of advice to the Ducks:

"Number one... Don't allow your player to apex before January whenever the game is... The second thing is that your players are in a routine. Keep them in that routine." (10:20)

Unlike the Buckeyes, the Ducks have not played a game since their win in the Big Ten Championship game against the Penn State Nittany Lions on Dec. 7. This is a long time to wait for such an important game, and many factors need to be taken into account to ensure that the Ducks are the strongest possible version of themselves.

Firstly, as Meyer said, the team cannot peak until game day. They always need to improve until the big day, and then they need to be their best. One of the best ways to do this is to follow his second point. By instigating a routine that is similar to what a standard preparation for a game would be like, the players will tend to see this game as just another game.

In reality, it is not another game, as the winners are one step closer to becoming national champions.

The Buckeyes will not have this problem. They played in the first round last weekend, where they easily defeated the Tennessee Volunteers. The hot Buckeyes side will only add to the challenges faced by the Ducks in what is likely to be an exciting matchup.

Oregon coach Dan Lanning on Buckyes' QB Will Howard

One of the major challenges that Oregon is going to have to overcome is the Buckeyes' Will Howard. On the Buckeyes quarterback, Ducks coach Dan Lanning said the following:

“I think he's built a lot of confidence in the guys that he's able to throw the ball to and even some confidence in the quarterback run game. I think you see him utilized a little bit more in the QB run game later in the season. But he does a good job of throwing good balls. He certainly threw a lot of good balls the other night down the field and was able to target those wideouts for explosive plays down the field.”

Howard has been strong all season, but his performance against Tennessee was better than most of his performances against Big 10 opposition. In the game, he threw for 311 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 37 yards.

If the Ducks are going to advance to the next round, shutting down the quarterback is something that has to be done.
