Deion Sanders continues to offer his support for Travis Hunter in the race for the 2024 Heisman Trophy. The two-way star put up another impressive performance on both sides of the field on Saturday against Utah, further laying claims to the coveted college football award.
Following the win against the Utes, Deion Sanders was asked about his message to voters who remain undecided on Travis Hunter’s candidacy for the Heisman Trophy. Sanders delivered a compelling statement, reinstating Hunter as the clear favorite.
"I ain't gonna sit up here and give no message to Heisman voters who is undecided," Sanders said. "If they can't see, they can't see. It is what it is. I mean, Travis is who he is. It's supposed to go to the best college football player. I think that's been a wrap since, what? Week 2?
"So, we ain't petitioning for nobody. We ain't doing that. We got a wonderful display of cameras here, and I think we on national television every week. If they can't see it, something is a problem. Don't allow their hatred for me to interfere with our kids' success. They got to stop that. Y'all got to stop.”
Travis Hunter is in a tight race for the Heisman Trophy with the likes of Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel and Miami quarterback Cam Ward.
Deion Sanders makes a case for Travis Hunter
As the Heisman Trophy race continues to heat up, Deion Sanders made a case for Travis Hunter in a Colorado podcast.
Speaking with enthusiasm, the coach, with a $45 million net worth, according to Celebrity Net Worth, explained why he believes Travis Hunter should be the Heisman Trophy winner ahead of Ashton Jeanty.
“Nobody has ever done what he’s done,” Sanders said on the 'Colorado Football Coaches Show' last week. “Let’s just get that straight. If the award is for the best player, I think that is him.”
“Now, this other kid is phenomenal, he’s the best running back. It’s a couple guys putting up those types of numbers, they just not giving the other guys any love. But he’s definitely one of the best, if not the best, running back. But what Travis is doing, hasn’t been done. It really hasn’t.”
Following another noteworthy performance against Utah in Boulder on Saturday, Hunter is expected to remain in the lead for the prestigious award until the next game week. Colorado has two games to go in the regular season, with Kansas and Oklahoma State on the schedule.
Travis Hunter needs to maintain the pace for the rest of the 2024 college football season to secure the award. He has been phenomenal for Deion Sanders' team since the beginning of the season.
