Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders made sure superfan “Miss Peggy” arrived in San Antonio in style ahead of the Buffaloes’ Alamo Bowl game against the BYU Cougars.
Before the season started, Sanders promised Peggy Coppom that the Buffaloes would make it to a bowl game. He then added he would fly her in on a private jet. Sanders kept his end of the bargain. There are pictures and videos of “Miss Peggy” boarding a plane in her Colorado attire on Thursday.
Sanders, whose worth is calculated at $45 million (according to Forbes), flew Coppom to San Antonio. The 100-year-old Colorado fan has supported the program for decades, no matter the results on the field, and has become good friends with Coach Prime.
Colorado (9-3) will face 17th-ranked BYU (10-2) in the Alamo Bowl for a strange intraconference bowl game. Since the game had previous ties to the Pac-12, it picked a former team from that conference to honor that arrangement. Colorado exited the Pac-12 before the 2024 season, joining the Big 12.
The Alamo Bowl will be played on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET in San Antonio.
Deion Sanders and Miss Peggy have a special relationship
One of the most uplifting stories from the college season in Boulder comes from the unlikely friendship between Deion Sanders and Peggy Coppom.
After arriving in Colorado, Sanders made sure to visit “Miss Peggy” at her home. They have shared some emotional moments since. Coppom ran out with Coach Prime before this season’s spring game.
After the Buffaloes ensured bowl eligibility by beating Cincinnati on Oct. 26, an image of Coach Prime and “Miss Peggy” was shown on the jumbotron with the caption “Peggy’s going bowling.”
Since she couldn't go to the stadium for health reasons, Deion Sanders and the team called Peggy Coppom right after the win over the Bearcats.
Following her 100th birthday, Coppom and Sanders held a news conference presenting a line of apparel for the Colorado super fan.
She recently struck the Heisman pose as the trophy won by Travis Hunter was on display during the team’s send-off party for the Alamo Bowl.
Coppom has been a Buffaloes fan since the 1940s. She attended football and basketball games with her sister, Betty, with matching yellow sweaters. After Betty died in 2020, “Miss Peggy” has kept her enthusiasm for the Buffaloes.
While Coppom was able to enjoy Colorado's 1990 national title, the program had fallen on hard times before Deion Sanders' arrival. In only two seasons, the Pro Football Hall of Famer has turned the program into a Big 12 contender.
