Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders has seemingly put his early season struggles behind him and has led the Buffs to three straight wins after an 18-point loss at the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Alongside sensational two-way star Travis Hunter, Sanders was outstanding during the Buffs' 48-21 win against the UCF Knights on Saturday.
He went 28 of 35 for 290 yards resulting in three touchdowns and one interception in the blowout win.
During Tuesday's practice, the maverick quarterback was well below his usual best, and in a clip posted on X, his father, the $45 million-worth Colorado coach Deion Sanders (as per Celebrity Net Worth) was critical of his son's effort.
"The schedule's gonna be changed tomorrow," Deion said. "Quarterback, you gotta come out here and do better. Shedeur, that was horrible from you today, horrible. You gotta come with better effort and more focus. Overall, offensive line, let's pick up where you left off in the game."
After the win against the Knights, the charismatic Coach Prime sang a different tune during his postgame news conference, praising his much-maligned offensive line and Shedeur Sanders' performance.
“Football-wise, this was one of the first times that we came out and played a collective game –offensively, defensively and special teams,” Deion said. “Shedeur ... I think he got touched a couple of times, but other than that, he ran the ball effectively. That’s what we want. We want that kind of balance.
"I know these guys can do it. I believe in them wholeheartedly.”
Shedeur Sanders uses grudges to keep going
The Deion Sanders hype machine has inevitably touched Shedeur Sanders, making him the highest NIL-valued student-athlete in the nation with a $4.8 million NIL valuation, according to On3.
Against the UCF Knights, celebrities like Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens and star quarterback Cam Newton were on the sidelines to watch the game.
When asked after the game what kept him grounded despite the hype surrounding him, Shedeur gave a surprising answer.
“I don’t forget anything,” Shedeur said. “I don’t forget what anybody ever said, and personally, I’m not one to make friends or feel like just because success is going on, now I’m going to forgive everybody. Nah, whatever you said at any point in time, I’m not really a forgiving type.”
ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper on the "Big Draft" already declared that Shedeur Sanders would be the first quarterback off the board in the 2025 NFL draft, and it seems that whatever pushes the mercurial QB is working.
