Under coach Deion Sanders, the Colorado Buffaloes have become relevant again after years of mediocrity. One reason for this was the arrival of quarterback Shedeur Sanders, the son of the $45 million-worth coach (according to Celebritynetworth.com)
However, come next season, the Buffaloes will be without Shedeur as he has declared for the 2025 NFL draft and is likely to be a top three pick.
His replacement is Julian Lewis. Sanders spoke about his new quarterback during a news conference on Tuesday:
"He's everything we desire in a quarterback. He's smart. He can make every throw. He has pocket awareness and pocket presence. He is a darn leader, but most of all, he is a winner."
Julian Lewis is a four-star quarterback prospect (according to 247Sports.com) from the state of Georgia. He recently signed with the Buffaloes, with his arrival being revealed in a well-produced video that involved Shedeur Sanders literally handing the keys of the program over to him.
Many think that Lewis is set to be the next long-term project for Deion Sanders, and this could be the reason why he may stay at the program instead of going to the NFL.
During his high school career, Lewis threw for over 10,000 yards. This is a high figure and is made even more impressive when it is known that Lewis did not play in his senior year.
With the Buffaloes, and especially under Deion Sanders, Lewis will be able to learn from some of the best, and if Deion puts his faith in Lewis, as he has done with what he said in the news conference, the Colorado team of the future could easily revolve around Julian Lewis.
Deion Sanders on Colorado's transfer portal
Also in the news conference, Deion Sanders spoke about what the Buffaloes plan to be doing in the transfer portal period. This is an area where Sanders has excelled, bringing in many talented players.
They have already brought in an offensive lineman and a defensive lineman, and Deion said that more will come.
"We're not done," Sanders said. "We're still on our way. Still some pieces to add to the puzzle, but it is much easier when you win."
Coach Prime has two priorities to focus on.
The first one is to prepare 20th-ranked CU (9-3) for the Dec. 28 Alama Bowl against 17th-ranked BYU (10-2).
The second is to bring in talent to counteract the inevitable losses that they will have in order to give Lewis, or whoever the quarterback will be in 2025, the opportunity to make a bowl game next season.
