The SEC Media Days are happening next week. This is a chance for players and coaches to speak to the fourth estate about their program's chances for the upcoming season.
The quarterback position is one that is always under scrutiny. Here are five SEC quarterbacks that are under pressure as we go into the media days.
5 SEC quarterbacks under pressure ahead of SEC Media Days
Jalen Milroe (Alabama)
Jalen Milroe will be going into his final season of college football with the Alabama Crimson Tide. In 2023, he led the team to the SEC championship and a controversial spot in the College Football Playoffs.
He was able to throw for 2,834 yards and score 23 touchdowns in that season. However, the 2024 Alabama side will be different from the 2023 one, with the biggest difference in terms of coaching.
Gone is legendary head coach Nick Saban, and in his place is former Washington Huskie head coach Kalen DeBoer. Milroe has stuck with DeBoer since he arrived, and he now has to show that this head coach can live up to the high expectations put on him.
Jackson Arnold (Oklahoma)
Jackson Arnold spent his freshman season as the backup to Dillion Gabriel. He was able to have some time on the field for the Sooners, recording 563 yards and scoring four touchdowns.
However, with Gabriel now playing with the Oregon Ducks, Arnold is the starting quarterback for the Sooners in what will be their first season in the SEC. If he is able to play well, the Sooners could have a respectful first season.
Nico Iamaleava (Tennessee)
Nico Iamaleava has been billed by some as the next great quarterback for the Tennessee Volunteers. After years of experienced quarterbacks, the Volunteers appear to be going all in on the young player.
Iamaleava spent most of the 2023 season on the bench behind a struggling Hendon Hooker. But now, as the starter, he is under pressure to prove that he is as good as many are saying. Surrounded by a strong set of wide receivers, Iamaleava should be able to lead Tennessee to a good season.
Garrett Nussmeier (LSU)
Last season, the LSU Tigers had one of the best quarterbacks in all of college football in the form of Jayden Daniels. His Heisman Trophy-winning performances were strong and helped the Tigers to a good number of wins last year.
However, Daniels is no longer with LSU, and his replacement is Garrett Nussmeier. He was the backup to Daniels and now will have to show that he is strong enough on his own to lead this program to success.
Conner Weigmann (Texas A&M)
Conner Weigmann will be the starting quarterback for the Texas A&M Aggies this season and will hope to lead the team to a successful campaign.
Weigmann was the starting quarterback last season as well but was injured earlier on in the season and did not play for the rest of it.
Weigmann will need to prove that he is the quarterback to help the Aggies, and the first step in order to do this is by having a season without any injuries.
