On Friday, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders was presented with the prestigious Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award that recognizes the best upperclassman quarterback. In a recent press conference, Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders said the NFL-bound quarterback is still poised to play one more game in the Alamo Bowl against the BYU Cougars.
During Tuesday's episode of the "2Legendary" podcast, the $6.2 million NIL-valued Shedeur (as per On3) spoke about which NFL quarterbacks he has found relatable throughout his career, namechecking the legendary Tom Brady and former LSU QB Joe Burrow.
“I would say Joe Burrow,” Shedeur Sanders said. “I haven’t talked to him or anything like that, but I’m just saying that from afar, like the year that he had in college, I like what he was able to do. Because it’s not nothing glamorous about Joe Burrow besides he gets everything done.
“Joe Burrow is more relatable to me because he wins with his mind. That’s what Joe Burrow and Tom Brady, like… A lot of guys were able to be more relatable to me personally because they are able to…. We all have similar attributes.”
Shedeur Sanders then talked about the aspects of Joe Burrow that he found relatable vis-à-vis former Louisville Cardinals quarterback Lamar Jackson, whose speed and physicality are legendary in the NFL.
“He [Burrow] just developed a work habit and work ethic that anybody can develop, so he’s realistic versus, like, Lamar Jackson," Sanders said (28:00). "Like, bro, you know how hard it is to do… I can try whatever I want to try. I could do all these workouts and I can never be Lamar Jackson because he’s special. He has his own category.”
Shedeur Sanders addresses Heisman Trophy snub
Despite being tabbed in the latest ESPN draft projection to be picked No. 1 in the 2025 NFL draft, Shedeur Sanders was not among the four finalists for the Heisman Trophy, which included his teammate, two-way star Travis Hunter.
During Tuesday's episode of the "2Legendary" podcast, Shedeur spoke about the snub, instead giving credit to the team for his successes (2:45).
"I mean, I'm not really tripping on it, bro, I'm like, honestly, I don't need other validation to know who I am," Shedeur said. "I don't really care, as long as they give one of us the respect we deserve, that's all that matters to me. You get what I'm saying?
"So, if I won the award you feel me? It's on behalf of the team, the o-line, the receivers because without those guys I wouldn't be able to do it."
Both Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders have been tabbed to be picked by ESPN as the No. 1 and 2 prospects in the 2025 NFL draft, and by that time, one of them will likely be a Heisman winner.
