Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Johnny Wilson was part of the unbeaten Florida State Seminoles team that won the 2023 ACC championship but were controversially left out of the college football playoffs. After a strong season, Wilson was drafted No. 185 overall in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft and was the 28th WR off the board.

Before the Week 6 clash between coach Mike Norvell's Seminoles against coach Dabo Swinney's Clemson Tigers, Wilson took advantage of the Eagles' bye week and was at the game which FSU lost 29-13 and dropped them to 1-5 for the season.

The 6-foot-6, 231-pound wide receiver took pictures with the team before the game started.

The career of Johnny Wilson in Tallahassee

Johnny Wilson started his collegiate career playing for the Arizona State Sun Devils before he entered the transfer portal and joined the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee in 2022.

In his two seasons with FSU, he registered 1,514 yards on 84 catches resulting in seven touchdowns despite missing a few games due to injury, especially last season.

Wilson declared for the NFL draft and impressed at the scouting combine held in Indianapolis. He recorded a time of 4:52 for his 40-yard run and set records in the process.

He was the tallest WR at the combine and also had the longest wingspan (84.5 inches). The records were previously set in 2015 by former New York Giants TE Darren Waller.

However, not everyone was dazzled by Wilson's skills and during an episode of "Cut To It" in February, former NFL star Steve Smith Sr. gave his assessment.

"This is where some people are going to get a little butthurt," Smith said. "Johnny Wilson, my man, No. 14 from Florida State, 6-foot-7, 237 pounds. He is not a good multitasker. That boy can't chew gum and tie his shoe at the same time, he's struggling."
"When you look at the size, 6-foot-7, 237 pounds, we hear this word, we heard it about a lot of people, he's a freak. Maybe at night but it ain't on the football field, I'm just telling you."

Several scouts agree that Johnny Wilson should play as a tight end in the NFL due to his size and abilities but he has not made a position change yet.
