The NIL era has completely revolutionized college sports, and NFL star Jalen Ramsey who plays cornerback for the Miami Dolphins has taken notice of the way NIL has influenced recruitment.
With players having the option to get paid, recruits are considering the NIL factor as a pull toward specific programs as opposed to the quality of the program and the coaches as they did before NIL.
On X, the $60 million worth Ramsey (as per Celebrity Net Worth) gave his two cents on how student-athletes should approach recruitment and the NIL issue.
“I [know] the college landscape is different with NIL but I hope these recruits keep the priorities in order,” Ramsey wrote. “Being coached by men who have proven to be good coaches & will help your game be as successful as possible should still be the key!”
In his post, he referenced several influential and experienced coaches in college football as coaches that players should want to play for. Included were Ohio State Buckeyes secondary coach Tim Walton and Eric Henderson, Auburn Tigers co-defensive coordinator Charles Kelly and Florida State Seminoles defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain.
“Henny obviously has been around & directly coached the absolute best on a NFL level,” Jalen Ramsey said. “I’m all for getting that [money], but that shouldn’t be the first piece of conversation, that’s all. I hope these young guys doing it right & have the right guidance.”
