Olivia Dunne's mother Katherine was not happy when the House v. NCAA case settlement filed on Friday aimed to target the challenged pose by third-party, not-driven NIL collectives. The settlement requires compensation for NIL deals to be "at rates and terms commensurate with compensation paid to similarly situated individuals," as per On3 Sports.
It established a new voluntary reporting system for deals that surpass $600, starting next month. All- third-party NIL deals of $600 or more must be approved by a clearinghouse that will vet the contracts. If a deal is not approved, a new third-party arbiter could deem the athlete ineligible or result in a school being fined.
Athletes who enter into multiple NIL agreements or receive payments from the same third parties with an overall value of $600 or more will need to submit contracts or payments. This new regulation caught the eye of Olivia Dunne's mother, who was not happy. She wrote on X:
"NIL is about giving athletes the same rights as every other student on campus to their own name image and likeness. Unless everyone needs to report payments over $600 for approval this is incredibly unfair. The market determines nil value not a third party."
Athletes can appeal to a neutral arbitrator, which will be quicker than the current NCAA process, but rulings are final and binding. Olivia Dunne has a net worth of $6 million, as per Celebrity Net Worth. The bulk of her fortune is from NIL deals.
