Bill Belichick is one of the most successful coaches in football, having led the New England Patriots for many years with Tom Brady as their quarterback.
A dynasty was created, but when Brady departed for Tampa Bay, the Patriots (who were still coached by Bill Belichick) struggled to return to their former glory. Belichick left the team after the 2023 season and has been without a coaching job since. However, he has been linked with many programs since leaving the Patriots.
A recent rumor on Belichick's next coaching location links him with the North Carolina Tar Heels, who fired their coach in Mack Brown last week.

The prospect of Belichick heading to college football was mentioned by former Alabama coach (and the Bill Belichick of college football) Nick Saban. The seven-time national championship-winning coach, who has a net worth of $80 million according to Celebritynetworth.com, told "The Pat McAfee Show" on Friday:
"Bill Belichick is an outstanding coach and I think that he would do a great job in College."
Belichick has never coached before at the collegiate level and has always worked in the NFL. 10 years ago, this would have been a problem, as the NFL and college football were worlds apart, and this may have been something that Belichick would have struggled to adapt to.
However, in 2024, the differences between college football and its professional counterpart are a lot less. College athletes can now get paid (like the professionals) and this has changed the way the sport works.
To adapt to this new world, teams like North Carolina are going to need to bring people in who know how to balance, making a winning team and the financial side of things.
This is where Bill Belichick will fit perfectly. He is more than experienced in doing this and should be able to adapt quickly.
He may struggle with recruitment, something that someone who has spent their career in the NFL would have never faced before. However, the appeal of working with Bill Belichick may be enough to bring people to the team, in a similar way to how Deion Sanders brought people into the Colorado Buffaloes.
Is this part of a bigger plan for Bill Belichick?
However, Nick Saban is not the only one with thoughts on Belichick's potential move to the Tar Heels. Barstool Sports' Dave Portnoy gave his views on the issue on the latest edition of "The Unnamed Show," where he said that this move is only the start of things for North Carolina:
“I heard, the reason (Bill Belichick) is interested — my sources tell me, and who knows if it's true — two years and he hands it over to his son (Steve Belichick)."
Bill Belichick has had a very impressive career and is nearing retirement. However, his son Steve is a coach in the making and is currently the defensive coordinator with the Washington Huskies. If his father takes charge of North Carolina, he could bring Steve to the program as the DC.
Then, when Bill decides to leave the program, he can announce his son as his successor, giving him a chance to live up to his father's reputation.
